A Dream Come True
By Aaron Moore
Today is my 44th birthday thanks to a very caring and “Compassionate to
Life” family that I did not even know!
Thanksgiving holiday of 2000 I was summoned to the University of Washington
Medical Center, after 3 years on the waiting list for a bilateral lung transplant. I
had already been called 3 times prior to that day, so I was very apprehensive to weather or not it was really going to happen. On the early afternoon of the next
day I was transplanted with 2 new healthy lungs! 2 days later, I was up and
walking without the aid of oxygen for the first time in 3 years!
And to beat, I had three of the best looking nurses in the entire hospital.
I was in good working condition with my new set of lungs, however I had many
other complications arise as I had many digestive issues to go along.
As I had two different fistulas from feeding tubes and drains it was a long healing process that left me in the hospital for many months following. My chest was re-opened several times due to wound infections and was finally left open to heal from the inside out, which took several more weeks of healing time.
