My Special Mom
My Special Mom
Is special to me
And much different from you.
She has an infection
One that will stay
Forever and ever and every day
"She has trouble breathing,"
I always say.
Every night
She breathes in
She breathes out.
She breathes in the treatment that
She breathes every night.
Every night a psst sound
Comes from her room
The sound of liquid oxygen
Pouring into her lungs
From a clear tube.
As we walk down the streets
She stops
She gasps for air
She swallows hard
She presses the button
On the inhaler.
23, 24, 25 pills
She swallows at once
She gulps them all down
All in one breath.
A sort of breath that is different from yours.
She works for the air
That she breathes every day
Her body fights to keep her alive.
Between the treatment
Between the angry doctors
And Transplant Doctors too.
But in her heart and to help her out
She always has me to help her through.
