Dragonfly Pond
I shed a pond of tears -- 100 years of crying.
Pain and sorrow settled in there, forming a
murky, slimy sediment
All my anger and frustration held the waters captive
and stagnant.

My grief released, I fell asleep amidst the reeds and
velvet-topped cattails.
Moons waxed and waned, winds blew cold and thunder bellowed-
Still I slumbered.
First snow dusted my body, the pond froze - not having heart enough
to keep it warm. Soon, no more was I than
some log or rock - frozen and rigid, left to rot.
I returned to the place from whence I came and waited.

I held my breath until the Spring, when fawn and feather reappeared.
A veil of dragonflies lighted upon the earth that I'd become
and my soul tingled with joy once more.
They carried me on wings of irridescent hope,
lifting me from my grave of sorrows, and
carried me off to heaven.
