Nocturne
A daisy, I am not
cheerful, bright and welcoming.
Nor a rose
possessed of elegant beauty
easily beheld.
Not even a lily or glory
made to open each morning
and herald the sun.

I am a night-blooming flower
dulled by the light of day.
Shut tight
against the insistent probing
of worker bee and flitting bird.
Invisible
to all but the cautious observer.

I hail the circumspect seeker,
one who knows
reticence is not rejection.
Though labyrinthine,
complexity longs to be fathomed.
Perception,
your dedicated, delicate seeking
will gain a return.

I will send out my messenger,
a redolent response.
Only you can reveal and see
this nocturnal, elusive beauty
You shall come upon me
shimmering in the moonlight,
petals unfolding in vulnerability.
