NACFC Conference Features Through the Looking Glass
This year, "Through the Looking Glass: Images of Adults with Cystic
Fibrosis" enjoyed a one-night exhibit at the CFF- hosted North American
Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The event was a Friday night hospitality suite hosted by Advanced
Respiratory, Inc., makers of The Vest (www.thevest.com).
The North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference is a medical conference geared
towards clinicians and researchers, updating the community each year on new
findings in the world surrounding Cystic Fibrosis. It draws nearly 3000
participants not only from Canada, the US and Mexico, but from Ireland, the
UK, Israel and as far away as Australia.
Advanced Respiratory invited The Breathing Room to exhibit our keystone
project in their Friday night hospitality suite, thus providing a suitable
time and place for the conference attendees to visit, enjoy a drink, and
expose them to the psych/social dimensions of CF expressed in "Through the
Looking Glass".
The event was very well received. Doctors, nurses and social workers
stopped by to tell the Advanced Respiratory representatives, and the
Breathing Room spokespersons how much they were moved by the honesty
portrayed in the "Looking Glass" images. One pediatric doctor even found a
photo of a former patient, and mused at how surprised and proud he was that
this patient had such strong sentiments brought forth with eloquence.
The Breathing Room would like to thank Advanced Respiratory for their
understanding of this important project, and their support in creating a
venue for "Through the Looking Glass: Images of Adults with Cystic Fibrosis"
at the NACFC 2001. We are looking forward to the next NACFC conference,
with the hope of bringing even more images to showcase next year. Mark your
calendars - Oct, 2002, New Orleans, LA. And if you find yourself at the
NACFC, look for us!
