Mission: Self-Expression and Candid Communication
The Breathing Room sponsors the creation and exhibition of "Through the
Looking Glass: Images of Adults with Cystic Fibrosis" as its primary
mission.
The purpose of "Looking Glass" is to support self expression for those
afflicted with CF. The project itself accomplishes several important
purposes:
- Candid and open communication from individual CF adults on the experience
of living with this terminal disease, particularly on aspects that are
important, difficult, and rarely discussed.
- Support of more open, mutually supportive relationships among adults with
CF; creation of "community."
- Education and insight for families, caregivers, and medical professionals
who impact the lives of people with CF.
- Enabling those outside the CF community to understand more deeply what
this
disease means to adults and thereby motivating more support for the CF
community and for research aimed at improved treatment and ultimately cure.
The Breathing Room, in the future, may sponsor and create additional
projects
with the same goals. And the organization will work on expanding the
publication of the Looking Glass project in other media besides exhibition.
This may include, but is not limited to, the publication of a book and a
documentary video about the making of Looking Glass and profiles of its
participants.
