A Perspective by Dolores Creed

Anthony

Scarred for Life”….Was he?
Was it that newborn belly scar he came grinning in with? Or was it that final scar, of rebirth. Each one breathing new life, And each breath a laugh. And that laugh our joy.

Scared for life - Was I?
Holding my breath. In time to his? In awe of this Being… Of me. And not of me. This bright burst of life in a cosmos constricted in wet coughs and denials. Pounding back. Holding back. Holding on. Conserving strength. Building strength. Finding hope. Saving love. Denying time.

If I had it all to do again, I’d squander the love. Full tilt all out blast with love in a shining burst, careless of time. Deep, gulping breaths of life’s love, like he did.

He started life with one scar. And ended it with another. Bookends to a time too short. But in between, a rollercoaster of existence. His life so full it patterned mine. A template for living life fully. He jolted our existence and made us heed the meaning.

And in the end, that scar gave breath to his lungs. And made wings of his heart. And that heart took wing and flew us all. And while he searched for love, he found it at last and left us all breathless and yearning for more.
