Phillip Howell
Born in 1957 and raised around sailing
boats, Phil currently lives with his wife Katrina, in Carlsbad, California.
Katrina also has CF, and the couple has been married since 1994. "I am blessed to
have parents who have been married fifty years," says Phil. He has two older sisters
who
do not have CF, as well as two adult nieces, two adult nephews, one great niece and one great nephew.
Phil was diagnosed with CF at
two years of age. "My health was somewhat stable,"
he says, "until 1993 when I
was in the hospital for six months straight. I have since bounced back, but
not at my old baseline. Up until then, I had always held a full time job. I
have been a short order cook, a custodian, a cashier for a grocery chain, a
warehouse manager and owner of a sportswear company. I graduated from Dana
Point High School in 1976 and have taken many courses at different community
colleges."
After high school Phil lived on Kauai for a year. "I learned to surf
when I was ten years old and believe surfing is what has kept me alive.
Since I am unable to work right now, I am pursuing drawing and painting and
still photography. I have a strong faith in God."
