A Thousand Cranes Perspective

“A Thousand Cranes”
A Perspective, Robin Modlin, Art Director, Caregiver Stories
Being the Art Director for this photo was very important and special for me. I have known Hatsuko and her daughters Ana and Isa since their arrival as freshman students at Stanford University. They have become a part of my family.
Seeing the strength in Hatsuko as a mother supporting her twin daughters to become independent adults has been so inspiring. Hatsuko used the opportunity to participate in a Caregivers photo to reflect upon where her strength came from, the difficult moments of waiting during their numerous exacerbations and eventual transplants and the profound joy in their survival through it all. Participating in this artful process has brought her a feeling of completion, healing and the satisfaction in knowing her experience will be shared with others in a beautiful and sensitive way.
This family has so much to share with our community. Hopefully by seeing this beautiful photo and reading Hatsuko’s words you will taste the love, and strength that has grown in their lives even through all of the very difficult moments.
