Grandma's Brag Book
I carry them everywhere. Share the images in my heart.
They’re looking for a vein. Fear and hurt.
Kathleen. Painful and worried eyes.
Devy in her arms, a smiling Madonna.
Helpless at his sickbed, a grieving Pieta.
Brothers dressed for soccer. Fun at last.
Here and there, ten minutes to spare for a latte.
The kitchen cupboard. No cookies, just meds.
Grandma and Devin. If only love could conquer all.
Weekend activity; stacks of bills and co pays.
Music, art, studies, a talented little boy.
Wrestling with Brendan, giggles and bumps.
Sick and tired eyes, a danger signal.
The phone: lifeline, worryline, intruder, vital
My smiling family, dear beyond words.
Eating by the TV; only at Grandma’s.
Books and games; a sense of normalcy.
His freckled face, a smile we live for; loving, hopeful, his.
