Write Some Words
Write some words, you say
To best express the feelings of today
And glean from long past memory’s span
All that which made a boy a man.
Write some words, you say
How best do I define in print
And capture all the eloquence
That cherished memories do impart
And have been blazoned on my heart.
Write some words, you say
How to write the words that best portray
The loving essence of this man
Whose imprint on our hearts and minds
Is etched forever in our time.
Write some words, you say
When wrenching grief consumes our day
And we cry out against this way
That fate decreed to end his stay.
How brief a stay had been ordained
But though we’ve lost, we also gained
The realization of his life and worth
We gained the measure of this man
And he stood tall in God’s own plan.
We did not want to let him go
But who has choice in matters so?
He was briefly ours as mortal be
And is now released to eternity.
