Gifts of the Journey
I hid from the journey that lurked in the shadows,
Dark and foreboding, a path filled with pain.
I covered my ears to block out the pleas.
Til one day I saw it, one day I heard;
"This is your journey ... I'll walk beside you,
I'll lend you my courage until you find yours."
As I walked through the blackness, the presents
emerged.
Gifts of joy and friendship, of wisdom and care;
of laughter and love and shared tears.
The journey continues, this journey I feared,
Each step brings more presents, each phase brings new
friends.
Some dreams are gone, but new ones unfold.
I've been given so much. I've learned to accept.
I've learned to let go without running away.
I've learned to be present and treasure each moment.
As I reflect on this path and recount all the gifts,
the best gift of all, that I cherish the most,
is the one that I feared - The Journey Itself.
